9 Steps to Building a Home with Us...
Meet with us

Several meetings with Tim Fleishour, Michelle May and the draftsmen are necessary to plan your home thoroughly from start to finish. Taking extra time in the beginning will help ensure you are not missing any details. To truly customize your home, we encourage you to bring pictures clipped from magazines, photographs of detailed fireplace mantels and built-ins as well as your house plan ideas. We can then better guide you through the process of determining what you want and what you don’t want.

In addition, we have many sources to draw upon to give you ideas to be able to customize your plans unique to you and your family.
Once the plans are completed, we then introduce you to the profession designer that will assist you in selecting everything from wall color to light fixtures to carpet and tile. You will conveniently make the vast majority of your selections at our design center.

Foundation

The foundation for your new home is excavated in preparation for the footers to be poured and concrete block to be laid, which will then become your basement walls. To help insure a dry basement, we lay in approximately 36” of gravel on the exterior of the foundation walls. During heavy rains, ground water is then able to be channeled to the drain tile at the base of the foundation and carried over to the sump pump. In addition, an asphalt sealer is applied to the exterior block of the foundation.

Framing

Framing crews arrive at the site to begin the “rough framing stage” of your new home. Trusses, which make up your roof and ceilings, are set atop your framed walls with a crane and much skill from the ground crew and the crane operator. Windows are then installed, roofing material is applied, siding, stone and brick are applied and your home is now protected from the weather.

Drywall & Trim

Much skill is now needed by the expert drywall professionals to achieve the perfect arch, rounded corner bead, curved wall, column or custom ceiling design. Following the drywall crew are the masters of their trade, the trim carpenters. This is where your home will really begin to come to life. The crew will be in your home for typically 2-3 weeks and with much precision nailing ever board, hanging every door and building on-site nearly every detailed piece of moulding
and wood working that you and Tim Fleishour have designed for your home.

Paint & Stain

Our painters will be bringing color to the home you can now proudly say you have been a very large part in designing and creating. Our craftsmen painters use a very high quality trim/door paint which is applied with a spray gun for a finish equal to fine furniture. This skill literally takes years to master, and we are proud to boast that we have one of the best in the area on our team. The paint crew also handles all the custom staining in your new home.

Mechanicals

At this stage of building your new home, the plumbers and electricians converge on your home to do their “finish” work. Lights are hung, faucets are installed and all the HVAC work is completed. Of course, as weather necessitates, we do have your home heated much earlier in the process.

Landscape & Hardscape

Providing the proper weather conditions are present, we now finish any exterior concrete and install all your landscaping or hardscape materials. You have a hand in designing this as well. Before we pour the driveways, sidewalks and patios, you are invited to the site to insure we have the proper look you have in mind. The same idea applies to the landscaping. You are invited to meet with the landscape company to spend your allowance on the plants that best express your personality.

Homeowner Orientation

A couple of weeks prior to completion, a company representative
spends 2-3 hours in your home thoroughly checking every part and selection to check for proper function and installation. This process is repeated again just prior to what we refer to as the Homeowner Orientation. At the orientation meeting, which can range from 1-2 hours, the site supervisor that was in charge of overseeing the building process will completely explain the function and care of your new home. You are given information of those companies that helped build the home should you have any questions or concerns after you move in. A couple of days after the orientation you will be given the keys to your new home either at closing at the title company or directly from us. This completes the home building process and begins the warranty period. We do have an in-house warranty department, to which you will submit a list, should you have one, at a 5 month period and again at 11 months.
